Colonial ciliates

Colonial ciliates, possibly Zoothamnium. Found on leaf litter. Each “bell” is an individual ringed with small hairs called cilia that rotate to create water currents. They are filter feeders. A large colony can be seen as a fuzzy greyish blob.
