Quabbin Photo Group Field Trip
I will be leading a Field Trip to Conant Brook Dam on the Monson-Wales border, on October 5th at 2PM and/or on October 27that 9AM. It is a real dam operated by the Corps of Engineers. There are a variety of photo opportunities in a short distance, no more than 10 minutes from the car. The dam itself affords some nice views in both directions. The rocks that form the dam should offer many macro possibilities. At the other end is a damp meadow that should have lots of interesting seed heads at that time, and other macro opportunities. Waterproof footwear will be a good idea. And then there is the pond formed by the dam that should have some foliage shots available. There are many trails that we may explore for short distances.
You can leave me a message here or use the contact info in the email that Gail sent. Members and guests of members are welcome. Sorry for the delay in posting this.
Getting there is similar to going to Norcross for those who were on that trip. Get to Monson, and head south out of town on route 32. Look for a green road sign pointing left (there is no right turn) toward Wales. Make that left. In a short distance bear right at a fork. Look for the signs for the dam on the left. The signs are not huge, but they are visible. Turn left and drive to the parking area. There is only parking for about 8 cars, so car-pooling is advised.
DO NOT access via Old Wales Road or Moores Cross Road. They end at the reservation boundary. Ignore any GPS instructions to use these roads.
